When 2018 first began and we said goodbye to good ol’ 2017, I had made my resolution to travel more, near or far and to create new memories. I wanted to do things for myself, and see the world through the lens of my camera but not miss out on the moments right in front of me. The previous year was filled with several opportunities of adventure, and this past year did not disappoint.
Back in April, Jake and I along with his family ventured off to Destin, Florida! This was my first ever trip to Florida, and I must say… My opinions of what I expected of Florida were completely blown away. 🙂 The weather was perfect, and we made it to our beach house that was right of Miramar Beach. There’s nothing quite like dipping your toes into the water and sun chillin’ on the whitest sands. We didn’t quite stay a full week, as wedding season was upon me, but we squeezed in that vacation and had an absolute blast. It was hard to say goodbye to those views. You can see more from our Florida vacation here.
Fast forward several months to the Fall, and I’m starting to come down from what was my busiest year to date. In between photographing several more clients and editing all of my weddings, I was preparing to leave for Chicago, Illinois with my parents. My little brother was set to graduate from the Navy, and we were going to spend the weekend celebrating him. The weather in Chicago contrasted highly against the Florida weather I had experienced earlier that year. We left the O’Hare airport and found snow every where. While I was super stoked to see snow and cold temps, the native Chicagoan’s were not. Ha! This wasn’t my first time there, and my family and I realized this was actually our third time to be in Illinois as a family. It was, however, the first time we’ve been there with the temperature that low, and a consistent amount of rain and gloomy weather. No matter, we made the best of our time, for sure! Huge shout out to my folks for putting up with me and my camera, and the many stops I wanted to make along the way. 😉
I’m so thankful for the memories made this past year. It’s been an incredible journey, and although our vacations weren’t that long, it provided the needed break and reset from life and the day to day to-do list. Now that 2018 is over, I’m looking forward to all that this new year has to offer. There are adventures awaiting, and I cannot wait to experience them.
